Jutta Bagdahn dates the present oil sketch to 1882/83. It can be brought into connection with two other sketches by Scholderer, but he probably never realised it in a large-format work. However, he uses almost the exact same pose for the female figure in his work "Quellnymphe" in the Städelschen Kunstinstituts in Frankfurt (Bagdahn, op. cit., p. 265, no. 228).
