Portrait of the later Tsar Paul with the Order of Saint Andrew

After a painting by Vigilius Eriksen in the K. L. David Collection, Copenhagen. Eriksen was court painter to the Tsaresses Elisabeth I. and Catherine II. He painted at least 30 portraits of Catherine the Great in various formats, poses and attires. The present painting depicts Catherine´s son, the later Tsar Paul I., aged 10, shown as Grand Prince. He succeeded his mother to the throne in 1796.
