A Berlin KPM Weimar vase with pâte-sur-pâte decor

Neoclassical vase decorated throughout with gilt relief foliage and flowerheads, reserving two round cartouches with musical putti and a grisaille profile on silver ground. Blue sceptre mark, red imperial orb mark, gold painter's mark 12, impressed marks. H 44.5 cm.

In the late 18th century, the painters at the Royal Berlin manufactory often utilised the bodies of vases to showcase the refined decorative techniques which went on to be widely used at the turn of the 19th century. The result was a harmonious combination of a traditional vase design and highly modern decor.
