Woman worker giving a speech

Figure of a speaking woman holding the 9th issue of Rabotniza journal. Blue stamped overglaze LFZ mark, incised N.D. in cursive to the back of the plinth. H 17.7 cm.
Lomonosov State Porcelain Factory, after 1936, the model by Natalya Danko 1923.

This little porcelain figure possesses an extraordinary realism, owing to that fact that Natalia Danko here portrayed her sister Elena. Like the figure of a sailor from the Balta with a flag, this piece was among the political models which won gold and silver medals at the international exhibition of decorative arts in Paris in 1925.

Rabotniza (the Worker) was a communist women's weekly magazine published in Petrograd from May 1917 to February 1918. One of its editors was Lenin's sister Anna Iljinitchna Jelisarova-Uljanova.
