A French18k gold Art Nouveau brooch with marks of Bapst & Falize

Of foliate form with wild man herms and diamonds. Suspending a later associated, small droplet-cut diamond. Maker's mark "FB". W 5.2 cm. Weight 23.2 g.
Paris, 1880 - 1892

The Paris goldsmiths Lucien Falize (Paris 1839 - 1879) and Germain Bapst (Paris 1853 - 1921) worked together from 1880 to 1892 and were highly successful. Falize won the Grand Prix at the Paris World Exhibition in 1878 and was awarded the Order of the Legion of Honour, and Maison Bapst had a long history as court jeweller to the French royal family.
