German or Netherlandish School of the 17th century

Two Portraits of a Lady and a Gentleman

Oil on copper. Each 13.7 x 11.4 cm (oval).

Both with cuttings from an English auction catalogue glued to the reverse of the presumably original frames.
Both portraits bear small coats-of-arms, and the sitters are both identified in barely legible script. The lady's portrait is monogrammed "LDN". A similar monogram is listed in Nagler's monogram lexicon (vol. 4, p. 403) as having been used on a small painting inset into a piece of furniture made for the Swedish ambassador to The Hague, and thus he attributes it to an artist active in Holland around 1650.
