The present painting has been attributed to the Monogrammist F. A., an artistic personality who was recentily studied and identified by Gianluca Bocchi (cf. G. Bocchi-U. Bocchi, Monogrammista F. A., in: Pittori di natura morta a Roma. Artisti italiani 1630-1750, ed. G. Bocchi and U. Bocchi, Viadana (Mantova) 2005, p. 491-498). The only known painting bearing the monogram F. A. is held by the Galleria Corsini in Rome and closely recalls the present work, as well as other examples ascribed to the same artist, who displays strong influence from Michelangelo Cerquozzi and Pseudo Salini.
