A Bihar phyllite fragment of a votive caitya with a crowned and bejewelled Buddha seated in meditation on a lotus, his hands holding a pot of madhu, the back of the throne and and a nimber behind the figure within a niche with bulbous pillars supporting a trefoiled arch with scrolls and surmounted by a kirtimukha. At the side a standing Buddha in a niche and a large kirtimukha spitting strings of beads. Northeastern India, Bihar, area of Bodh Gaya. 9th century.
