Dirck Hals, circle of

Merry Company

Oil on copper, mounted on panel (parquetted). 52.5 x 64 cm.

Following careful examination of the original, Dr. Britta Nehlsen-Marten assigns the present work to the first half of the 17th century, to the closer circle of the Haarlem genre painter Dirck Hals.
The motif of this work is a finely painted variation of the so-called "Loose Company" theme established during the 1620s and 1630s.

Provenance

Private ownership, Germany.
