A Berlin KPM biscuit porcelain medallion with a portrait of Johann Georg Grieninger

Memorial plaque with a portrait of the first manufactory director, inscribed "I. G. GRIENINGER. KOEN: PREUS: GEH: COMMISS: RATH: UND. PORCEL: MANUF: DIRECT: 1716/91." Signed to the underside "C.F. Riese fecit." D 15.8 cm.
1791, the model by Johann Carl Friedrich Riese.

Much of what we know about the early years of the KPM manufactory derives from a report by Johann Georg Grieninger, which was transcribed by Köllmann in 1966 (p. 288 ff.). These notes, entitled "Vom Ursprung und Fortgang der Königlichen Ächten Porzellan Manufaktur zu Berlin" start in 1761 with the beginning of Gotzkowsky's management and end with the death of King Frederick II on August 17th, 1768.
