A Flemish carved oak figure of a saint with a book, circa 1480

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened and deeply hollowed out. Minimal remains of former polychromy.. A figure of a saint holding an open book in her left hand and standing in balanced contrapposto. The figure's headdress and features are just as finely worked as the rich play of vertical and horizontal folds of her floor length gown and the hems of the cloak that surround it.
The right hand possibly a replacement. Vertical crack to the left shoulder. The reverse of the plinth abraded and supported with a wooden wedge. Mounted on a wooden base. Height 87 cm (without plinth).
