Oil on paper, mounted on canvas. 46 x 74 cm.

The dramatic contrasts of light and shadow, the reduction of the colour palette to just a few sombre tones and the towering cloud formations characterising the present work anticipate early Romantic painting. Georges Michel is today considered one of the forerunners of French Romantic landscape painting and as an important precursor of the Barbizon School.
This work is to be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné of this artist currently being prepared by Mr. Michel Schulman in Paris.
