Adolf Hölzel
Landschaft (Nebliger Morgen, Fabrik)
Circa 1904
Oil on canvas 62.5 x 50.3 cm Framed. Signed ' A. HOELZEL.' in blue grey lower left. - An old exhibition label from Kunsthandlung Ludwig Schaller, Stuttgart, with handwritten numeration verso on stretcher, with the title "Nebliger Morgen" and another paper label with the inscription "Die Fabrik".
In the spring of 1904, Hölzel creates a few rare compositions that stylistically must have developed under the influence of neo-impressionist works. Charactersitic of the works are the light, translucent dots of paint on coarse, unprimed canvas and the considerable reduction of colour. Most of them are landscapes, whereby the present composition and its suggested industrial theme is also reminiscent of impressionism including everyday life and technology.
