The French artist Charles Euphrasie Kuwasseg was the son of an Austrian painter. He received his initial training under his father and from H. Durand-Brager. He was later taught by E. Isabey, and this artist had a significant influence on his style. Kuwasseg primarily painted the landscapes and seascapes of Normandy, Brittany, and Holland. Alongside their confident draughtsmanship and balanced compositions, the artist's works can be recognised by the harmonious and often somewhat muted colour palette that also characterises the present canvas.
