The 'Panmure' ran aground in stormy seas off the coast of Salt River Mouth in South Africa on 4th August 1891 (the original investigation report on the disaster can be read online under: <http://www.plimsoll.org/resources/SCCLibraries/WreckReports/16101.asp>). This work was painted the following year and shows salvage work being carried out on the stranded vessel.
