Grigorij Jefimovich Shpolansky

Lenin's Speech on the Goelro Plan

Oil on canvas 150 cm x 239 cm Signed lower right: Shpolansky (in Cyrillic)

The Goelro plan was one of Lenin's most important development programmes. The state plan foresaw the electrification of all of Russia, and its implementation began in the early years of the Soviet Union. It was designed to help the economically regressive country modernise following the crippling civil war. The present work shows the nomination of the state commission for the electrification of Russia. They developed a 10-15 year plan for the construction of 30 power plants. The Goelro plan was completed in the early 1930s. The Russian term "Ilyich's lamp" for a lightbulb was coined in this time and reminds of Lenin's efforts in the electrification of the country.
