Friedrich August Theodor Dietrich (1817 - 1903) attended the Berlin Art Academy, where he was taught by Christian Daniel Rauch and Christian Friedrich Tieck. His first significant commission was for a statue of Tsar Nicholas I, and he also created several portraits of the Prussian prince. Friedrich Dietrich knew Friedrich Wilhelm Kullrich from their time together at the Berlin academy in the class of Christian Daniel Rauch, and the two of them may have been friends. Kullrich also received his first significant commission in 1851: For the creation of a medal depicting Rauch's monument to Frederick the Great.
