A Berlin KPM porcelain plate from the Japanese service

With a large, finely painted chinoiserie scene to the centre, bordered by gilt foliate wreaths surrounding iron red flowers. Blue sceptre mark with pfennig, red imperial orb, iron red stamped "FW" monogram, impressed 4., mass mark. Minor wear to the gilt edging. Diameter 25.1cm.

The prototype for this plate was the famous table service ordered by Frederick II for his Chinese tea house in Sanssouci on 14th July 1769, which was delivered in April 1770. The service was later used in Sanssouci and subsequent orders were placed under Frederick William IV.
