The landscape and still life painter Ernst Amadeus Barth studied in Bern and Zurich before moving to Paris in 1920. The city's lively art scene provided fresh impulses for his work, and he took part in many of the most important exhibitions in the metropolis, including the Autumn Salon of 1922 - 1924, the Salon des Indépendants 1923, and the Salon des Tuileries 1924 - 1927. He moved to Stockholm in 1926 with his wife, the Swedish painter Signe Madelaine Barth.
