A rare Berlin KPM porcelain box formed as lemons on a leaf

Each hollow trompe l'oiel lemon with removable lid. The finials formed as lemon blooms. Blue sceptre mark, impressed OO 22. One lid and the flowers restored. W 20 cm.
Circa 1765.

KPM produced many such trompe l'oiel fruit vessels in the early years of the manufactory. The dessert service for Catherine II included large tureens formed as canteloupe melons, and the plat de menage of the 2nd Potsdam service included several trompe l'oiel pieces.
