Literature

Frederick II’s invoice records include an entry for 18.06.1768: “2 toilette sets with completely polychrome décor in naturalistic flowers and gilt mosaic” (Lenz, reprint, vol. 1, p. 22).
A further detailed description of a white toilette set also states that the box was produced in two versions – one larger and one middle-sized and square. The present work is the large version.
A complete toilette service (formerly in the collection of Mrs Oppenheim in Berlin) is illus. in: Lenz (Reprint), vol. 2, pl. 129. This service includes the middle-sized boxes.
A further box of the mid size with rose décor in puce is kept in Köpenick palace (inv. no. Hz310 ff.)
