The cylindrical body with 10 impressions of “Clausthaler“ coins depicting the Saxon horse with “L” and “W” for the Welf lines of Lüneburg and Wolfenbüttel, who together ran the mine at Clausthal. Engraved between the coins with mining depictions and the arms of the miner’s guild dated 1652. The lid with five figures beside minerals as personifications of the various stages of mining, from dowsing for mineral veins to breaking rocks for ore. The interior of the lid engraved with three sayings, the underside engraved with a dedication from the Harz smelting works to the main administration of Preussag dated 1956. H 33 cm, weight 4,140 g.
Marks of Theodor Blume, 1955.

This tankard is based on an opulent occasion piece with a depiction of the mine at Oberharz commissioned by the miners association in 1652. The inside of the tankard contains a 19 runged ladder, which becomes visible as the user drinks. There are eight known replicas of the beaker made by the Hildesheim goldsmiths Theodor Blume. The most well-known piece was given as a present by the Harz mining towns to Victoria Louise of Prussia and her husband Ernst August of Hannover on occasion of their wedding in 1913 and which is now housed in the collection of the Richard Borek foundation in Hamburg.
