Ottani worked as a painter of theatre backgrounds following his training in Bologna. He settled in Turin following many journeys throughout Italy, where he became court painter. Ottoni's works embody the refined and elegant rococo taste. His detailed architectural backgrounds are executed in the manner of Giuseppe Galli da Bibiena.
