Cornelis Dusart

Hurdy Gurdy Player by a Tavern

Brown ink and wash over chalk on parchment. 36 x 31.7 cm.
Framed under glass.
Signed lower left: AvOstade pinxit C.Dusart fe..

The present work is one of several copies carried out by Dusart after compositions by his teacher Adriaen van Ostade. Despite this, the detailed drawing on fine parchment can still be considered an accomplished independent work by the Haarlem based painter Dusart, in which he has managed to free himself from Ostade's enduring influence.
With a horizontal tear ca. 10 cm below the upper edge, several backed tears to the edges, yellowed.
