A Southern Netherlandish carved ivory figure of John the Baptist, circa 1400

Carved in the round, minimal remains of former polychromy and gilding. A standing figure of the bearded saint facing slightly to the side, holding his attribute in his left arm. He wears the lion's pelt, his other attribute, beneath a simple robe draped about his body, and its head can be seen by his feet.
The head and right foot of the lamb missing. Losses to the plinth. Yellowing. Height 16.3 cm.
