A Lower Rhenish carved wood Anna Selbdritt group, circa 1480/1490

Presumably walnut, the figures carved in the round, the reverse only summarily worked. The back of the throne left plain and chamfered to the sides. Minimal remains of former polychromy. A finely carved group seated on a coffered and waisted plinth. Anna is depicted on the right in matronly garb, holding a chalice with grapes on her lap. Her daughter Mary sits crowned on the left, holding the Christ child in Her lap, who is shown stepping towards the chalice. The group would originally have been framed by a canopy, of which only the lower parts are still visible to the back of the figures.
The hands lost. Minimal wear. 35.5 x 29 x 19 cm.
