The National Socialists' seizure of power in 1933 soon changed the working conditions in the photo studio of the Jewish family of Lotte Jacobi in Berlin. The studio was run under various aliases as of autumn 1933 in order to obscure the family's origin. “The studio was run under the name 'Bender u. Jacobi' until the emigration in 1935. Alexander Bender was the secretary of Adolf Wohlbrück, a close family friend. He wanted to learn photography under Lotte Jacobi and was prepared to lend his name to the firm.” (cited from the German, Marion Beckers/Elisabeth Moortgart, in: Das Verborgene Museum e.V. (ed.), Atelier Lotte Jacobi. Berlin. New York, exhib.cat. Das Verborgene Museum, Berlin et al., Berlin 1997, p. 134).
