“Fleischmann's oeuvre of the 1920s is significantly characterised by the depiction of animals. As collages from 1920s show, Fleischmann very quickly detached himself from Marc's style of expressionism and voiced his own personal note. However, he adhered to his desire to become an animal painter. The faceted shaping of Cubism, which he evidently became acquainted with through Marc, complemented Fleischmann's innate inclination towards defined shapes.” (Alfred M.
