Literature

This piece illus. in: Rückert, Munich 1966, no. 522, p. 123, pl. 133, with the following note (from the German) “the depiction is based on an engraving by Jo.Chr. Weigel, in turn based upon designs by Petrus Schenk (cf. Yamada 1935, pl. XX, illus. 57). The painter must have been a faience painter before working for Meissen, and thus the piece is tentatively attributed to Johann Caspar Ripp, who previously worked for the faience manufactories of Frankfurt, Hanau, Ansbach, Nuremberg, and Bayreuth but is recorded by Hoeroldt as a “Meister im Blauen” in September 1750.
