A Meissen porcelain model of a barking dog on its kennel

A rare, lively depiction, presumably inspired by Chinese Fo-dogs. Unglazed, unmarked base. Firing cracks to the base, chips to the silvered chain and the edges of the roof. H 10.3 cm.
Late 1730s / 1740s.

The collection of Sir Gawaine and Lady Baillie, sold by Sotheby´s London on 1st May 2013.

Literature

Kaendler's workshop records contain an entry from May 1734 "6. Also a dog kennel, designed as if it were made from stones and with a tiled roof." (from the German in: Pietsch ed., Leipzig 2002, p. 23).
