Georg Hinz (Haintz, Heintz)

Still Life with Sweetmeats and a Rummer

Oil on canvas (relined). 52 x 43 cm.

The present work shows a glass rummer and biscuits arranged on a narrow stone table. The rummer is half-empty, someone has already sampled the biscuits - as shown by the crumbs strewn across the table - and several flies can be seen crawling over the food.
Fred Meijer attributes this intriguingly sober still life to Georg Hinz, a German artist active in Hamburg but obviously influenced by Dutch painting (see also the expertise by Raffaela Colace). The vivid red tablecloth can be found in other works by this artist, such as a still life in Schloss Gottorf in Schleswig.

Certificate

Raffaela Colace, Cremona, 12.3.2007.

Provenance

Private ownership, Italy.
