A wooden figure of Saint Christopher, probably Swabia, circa 1470/80
Carved in the round and partially freestanding, the reverse only cursorily worked. Extensive remains of the late 19th century polychromy.. A figure of the saint standing in contrapposto, designed for a frontal viewpoint. He carries the nude Christ Child with a globe on his left shoulder. The bearded Saint Christopher wears a short robe exposing his bare legs and a large floor length cloak draped around his shoulders.
The Child's right arm replaced, staff and plinth replaced. Wear with minimal losses. Height 73 cm (with plinth).
