A similar work by Mühlig can be found in his catalogue raisonné: A. Baeumerth, W. Körs: Hugo Mühlig 1854-1929. Leben und Werk, Düsseldorf 1997, p. 233, no. 393. The landscape is almost identical, as are the depictions of the hay wagon and the farmer with his pitchfork, whereas the other figures vary. The peasant woman resting in the foreground is not to be found in the comparison work, but she is shown in many of his other harvest scenes. The motif probably originated in a small oil on plywood study in private ownership (18 x 28 cm) depicting a woman in peasant clothing sitting in a field pouring herself a drink from a pitcher (cf. Baeumerth, W. Körs: Hugo Mühlig 1854-1929. Leben und Werk, Düsseldorf 1997, p. 230, no. 367).
