Alexander Koester

Feeding Time

Oil on canvas, mounted on hardboard. 54 x 81 cm.
Signed lower left: A. Koester.

Over the course of his career, Alexander Koester gradually drifted away from realism to embrace a more Impressionistic style. He relinquished detail and relied instead on the use of broad, dynamic brushstrokes. This change in style brought him sensational success and his ever more masterful depictions won him more and more awards. In 1904 he received a gold medal at the St. Louis World Fair - for one of his duck paintings, of course - and he was also awarded a gold medal by Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria for his duck painting “Dem Ufer zu”.

Provenance

In a West German private collection for over 60 years.
