Brush and India ink drawing on smooth, brown paper. Verso with a sketch of plant and flower motifs in pencil 58.4/59.4 x 35/36.2 cm Framed under glass. Signed 'E L Kirchner' in pencil within the depiction lower left. Basel estate stamp (Lugt 1570b) lower left verso, therein inscribed "P Be/Bg 2" in black India ink and barely legibly titled 'Zwei nackte Mädchen [...]' in pencil right. - The paper irregularly cut and slightly creased overall. The central lower margin with an old backed tear.
According to Gerd Presler, the present studio scene is one of Kirchner's rather rare sheer ink wash drawings created in his early years in Berlin. Kirchner mostly used brush and India ink in combination with pen and ink.
