A large maki-e lacquer box (tebako) with a domed lid, the rim lined with pewter, displaying Mongolian falconers and an archer hunting cranes in takamaki-e, a little black and red lacquer, and gold and silver kirikane on kinji. Nashiji to the inside of the lid. Copper fittings for the silk cords. 19th century. Original wooden box inscribed Sansui jinbutsu makie go tebako (Box with figures in a landscape in maki-e).
