A Berlin KPM porcelain dinner plate from the blue ribbon service for Frederick II

Model no. 631. Painted to the centre with a large bouquet of naturalistic flowers. Bordered by a gilt laurel wreath entwined by a gilt-edged blue ribbon. Blue sceptre mark. A restored rim chip. D 24.9 cm.
Ca. 1786.

On 20th July 1786, two months before his death, King Frederick II placed one final larger order at Royal Berlin. He requested one of the two services which he commissioned to be painted "with coloured naturalistic bouquets, in the border a dark blue ribbon wrapped around a gold engraved laurel wreath and a gilt edge". The date of its completion is not recorded.
