A white marble relief portrait of Frederick William II

In a glazed giltwood frame, mounted on blue velvet and paper. Depicting the King in uniform facing left. The frame carved with the Prussian eagle holding the sceptre and imperial orb. The crown reattached, the cross a metal replacement. H bust 25, H frame 61 cm.
Prussia, probably late 18th C., the frame mid-19th C.

Provenance

By repute, the piece originates from Königsberg Palace.

This manner of depiction, also in oval frames, was used for portraits of Frederick II (cf. cat.: Friedrich Wilhelm II. und die Künste, Berlin-Brandenburg 1997, no. II.39 f.
