A Royal Berlin KPM porcelain footed bowl with botanical decor

Unidentified model. Fired in two parts and mounted. A bowl with a wreath of coloured caper blossoms on a jasper-coloured foot. Identical decor to the upper rim, the centre finely painted with gladioli. Blue sceptre mark with blue enamel dash, impressed marks. H 16.4, D 27.4 cm.
Ca. 1809 - 13, decor presumably after a design by Gottfried Wilhelm Völcker.

This footed bowl was produced directly after the botanical service for Empress Joséphine, in the period of the French occupation. Samuel Wittwer writes in the catalogue of the collection of Richard B. Cohen: "In records of the painter's workshop for the main warehouse listing the crockery made for sale to the public between 1813 and 1820, (...) several pieces are mentioned which would fit the description of the type made for the French Empress." (p. 257). The design appears to have come into fashion shortly after Joséphine's order.
The floral decor may have been designed by Gottfried Wilhelm Völcker, who based his flowers on the botanical illustrations of Johann Centurius von Hoffmansegg and Heinrich Friedrich Link.
