A Berlin KPM porcelain plate depicting the Mausoleum in Charlottenburg

Model no. 1054. Decorated with a view of the mausoleum of Queen Louise to the centre, bordered by foliate and cartouche motifs. Labelled in black to the underside. Blue sceptre mark with red enamel dash, painter's and impressed mark 16, incised III, black owner's monogram E.A.F.C. and labelled with inventory no. 666. D 23.9 cm.
Ca. 1817 - 1823.

Queen Louise of Prussia died of a lung infection on 19th July 1810, aged just 34. Karl Friedrich Schinkel and Heinrich Genz were commissioned to create a worthy mausoleum for her in the park of Charlottenburg Palace. The sarcophagus bears the famous statue made by Christian Daniel Rauch in 1811 to 1814, which depicts Louise as if in sleep. The austerity with which the monument is shown in this plate expresses the sadness felt at the death of the beloved Queen.
