A Berlin KPM porcelain plate with Prussian Hussars

Model no. 1054, decorated to the centre with a detailed military scene in the new style bordered by stylised foliage and broad gilt borders. Blue sceptre mark, brown imperial eagle, painter's and impressed marks. D 24.8 cm.

Literature

Eight plates with the same quality of decor in the Twinight Collection (cat.: Raffinesse & Eleganz, Munich 2007, no. 129).
Samuel Wittwer mentions one of the books used by the manufactory for these designs, namely "Darstellung der Königl. Preussischen Cavallerie in 41 Figuren", published by Wittich Berlin in 1821 after drawings by Friedrich Lieder. When the talented illustrator and painter Friedrich Johann Gottlieb Lieder (Potsdam 1780 - 1859 Budapest) was travelling through Berlin, Frederick William III hired him as a court painter and commissioned him to illustrate Prussian uniform requirements.
