A rare Berlin KPM porcelain plate with a view of Vienna

A rare Berlin KPM porcelain plate with a view of Vienna

Model no. 1054, decorated to the centre with a view of the city seen from the slightly raised position of the Belvedere and bordered by finely chased tendrils. Blue sceptre mark with red enamel dash, painter's, impressed, and incised marks. D 24.9 cm.
Ca. 1820.

This view is an unusual design for KPM, and is thus thought to have been made to order. It depicts a scene similar to the famous "Canaletto View" of Vienna, but seen from a few meters further to the right and not including the Karlskirche. The piece may have been based upon the engraving "Vue de la Capitale de Vienne, et d´une grande partie des ses Fauxbourgs, prise du coté du Belvedere", published by Artaria in Vienna and by Hans Gutacker in Bonn.
