A royal ormolu-mounted Berlin KPM porcelain dish

Unidentified model, fired in two parts and mounted. The centre of the dish finely decorated with radial ornament bands of stylised pinks and lilies. The border with exotic fruit such as pineapples, grapes, melons, lemons, oranges, tomatoes, corn, and figs. The underside of the dish with gilt trompe l'oeil fluting. The base and shaft moulded and decorated with Neoclassical foliage on midnight blue ground. Blue sceptre mark, red imperial orb mark. H 38.5, D 59 cm.
1832 - 37, the bronze mountings by Werner und Mieth, Berlin.

Comparable to the two large fruit dishes from the dinner service for the Russian Grand Prince Nicholas, later Tsar Nicholas I, which was ordered and carried out by Berlin KPM between 1817 and 1823 (Köllmann, vol. II, Braunschweig 1966, pl. 216).
