An important enamelled snuff box formed as a boot

Copper box with polychrome and gilt "email de Saxe" relief, vermeil mountings. Formed as a boot with a relief buckle. The base of the heel can be twisted to the side to reveal a star-shaped opening. The hinged lid with moulded rim at the top of the boot conceals a gilt bowl. Richly decorated throughout with blue trellis-pattern, coloured flower baskets, gold relief enamel accents, and relief frames surrounding polychrome river landscapes. Minor older discoloured retouches to the heel and tip, cracks. H 9.8 cm.
