Oskar Moll

Lesende mit roter Jacke (Bildnis Ursula Waetzoldt)
1925

Oil on canvas 100 x 75 cm Framed. Signed, inscribed, and dated 'Oskar Moll Levanto 25' in green lower left. - Unobtrusive old canvas defects in left margin.

According to information from Gerhard Leistner, Ursula Waetzoldt (1910-1983), the daughter of the art historian Wilhelm Waetzoldt (1880-1945) who was friends with Oskar and Marg Moll, is depicted in this refreshing portrait. Wilhelm Waetzoldt spent much of his career in Berlin, working for the Prussian Ministry of Culture as of 1920, and as Director General of the Berlin State Museums from 1927 - 1933.
The portrait of the bright young lady with emerald eyes and a hair style typical of the time was created during a stay in Levanto in the region of Liguria. Between 1922 and 1926, Oskar Moll regularly spent the summer months there.
