Johann Kupecky, attributed to

Portrait of a Man with his Dog

Oil on canvas (relined). 114 x 92 cm.

A very similar work depicting the same man can be found in the Szépmuvészeti Múzeum in Budapest. This slightly larger version (134.5 x 110 cm) shows the sitter and his dog against a dark monochrome background in slightly plainer clothing, en face. The Szépmuvészeti Múzeum date their version to around 1710, and we assume the present work to have been painted at a similar time.
