A Flemish carved oak depiction of the Entombment of Christ, circa 1510/20
Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened. Minimal remains of former polychromy. A pierced high-relief depiction of Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea placing the body of Christ into the diagonal sarcophagus which largely dominates the composition of the piece. They are accompanied by the Virgin and the kneeling Mary Magdalene.
Two vertical cracks to the upper centre. Traces of insect damage and wear with minor losses. 41 x 30 x 11 cm.
