Rudolf Levy

Blumenstrauß in Schale
1922

Oil on canvas 55.4 x 63 cm Framed. Signed and dated 'R Levy 22.' in blue below the centre right. - Very fresh colours, 3 minute isolated spots with loss of colour within the foliage.

“From a stylistic point of view, Levy's work from 1919 to 1933 can be classified between the two poles of Expressionism and Realism. The continuation of an expressive form of painting based on the relationship of colour is just as noticeable in his pictures as the elaboration of a form-simplifying objectivity that draws close to a typical contemporary trend in the art of the 1920s. […] First and foremost, he focused on still life, a theme whereby both concentrated arrangement and composition could be trained and the resumption of the results of his studies in Paris could be elaborated.” (Susanne Thesing, Rudolf Levy. Leben und Werk, Nuremberg 1990, p. 97)
