Pencil drawing on plain, smooth paper (double-sheet from sketchbook). Further skletches verso in pencil resp. pen and India ink and gouache over pencil (fragment) 16.1 x 20.8 cm (double-sheet opened up 20.8 x 33.1 cm) Framed under glass. Unsigned.- The individual pages of the sheet partially inscribed with very small page numbers in pencil by an unknown hand lower right. - The yellowish paper with red margin cut and with rounded corners, in the fold with traces of the former thread stitching, slightly browned on recto with light stain, somewhat creased. Slight stains of a former mounting with adhesive tape diagonally over the corners pushing through to lower recto resp. upper verso.
The double sheet from a seperated sketchbook by Franz Marc from 1910 shows further animal sketches inside, including a full-page pen drawing of a curled-up cat; the watercolour fragment belongs to the image of a lion composed with pink lavis in the background (cf. Annegret Hoberg/Isabelle Jansen, Franz Marc catalogue raisonné, vol. III, sketchbook XIX, p. 5 with colour illus. p. 152).
