Still Life with Fruit, Chinese Porcelain, and Silverware
Oil on canvas (relined). 57.5 x 72.5 cm.
Monogrammed lower left: AB f (to the edge of the table).
Abraham van Beijeren was one of the most productive still life painters in 17th century Holland. His oeuvre encompasses maritime scenes, banquets, small ontbijtjes, fish-, flower-, and fruit still lifes. In this opulent work, costly silverware and a Chinese porcelain bowl form the centrepiece of a pyramidal arrangement of fruit, oysters, and bread. The objects are presented on a table covered with a luxurious shimmering silver cloth.
